Household Cleaner Manufacturers

Be It Ever So Humble

According to the U.S. Census Bureau stats, as of July 1, 2019, there were 139,684,244 owner-occupied housing units nationally.  Since the Coronavirus pandemic of March 2020, home sweet home became more than a place to lay the head after a hard day at the office or school. In September 2020, a Forbes business article wrote that homeowners, spending more time at home, were renovating room space to be multi-functional — for work, virtual learning, and personal gym!  Unified Solutions For Cleaning, a household cleaner manufacturer, has taken heed of the need for more cleaning product formulas that launder, scour, scrub, shampoo, rinse, strip, shine, wax, polish, disinfect and sanitize the daily grit from a variety of surfaces.

Yes, American consumers are ‘on the hunt’ for specialty cleaning products that clean, sanitize, and disinfect!

Defining ‘The Rub’ Of Household Cleaning

Most household cleaning products are for hard-surface cleaning. However, not all hard surfaces are equal, and there is ‘the rub,’ aka the difficulty, of creating a cleaning product formula. It is why household cleaning manufacturer, Unified Solutions For Cleaning, can feel justly proud of their research and development of thousands of product formulas for every cleaning need! While some formulas are for the general removal of dirt and dust, other product formulations eliminate stains, kill bacterial and viral germs with disinfectants, or reduce the majority of bacterial germs on a particular surface with sanitizers.

Surfactants, or Surface Active Agents, are the primary ingredients in the majority of cleaning products. Products designed with a single chemical to clean one issue are called commodity cleaners.

Examples of commodity cleaners include nail polish remover, spot removers, glue removers, and degreasers.  These all contain surfactants with one chemical element to clean one specific type of soiled surface.  All of these cleaners would be classified as solvents.

There can sometimes come a variety of issues to resolve on a targeted surface, and household cleaning manufacturers will sometimes create formulated cleaners composed of surfactants, chelators, builders, and carriers. These elements work together on the surface by emulsifying, lifting, dispersing, sequestering, suspending, and decomposing the various surface soils.

Examples Of Formulated Cleaners:

Disinfectants: Disinfectants contain antimicrobial cleaning agents such as pine oil, sodium hypochlorite, quaternary ammonium compounds, or phenols designed to kill bacteria and viruses on surfaces. Disinfectants contain surfactants and ‘builders’ to remove dirt. ‘Builder’ chemicals boost the effectiveness of surfactants and act as buffers, softeners, and emulsifying agents and are added to remove heavier oily substances.

Glass Cleaners: Glass cleaners contain surfactants to loosen the dirt, carrier elements as solvents to dissolve oily substances, and water, also a carrier element, to carry surfactants and solvents. There are also ‘builders’ that enable non-streaking.

Multi-Surface Cleaners: Effective for most kitchen surfaces, such cleaners contain surfactants, carrier elements called solvents, mild alkalies (soap), and ‘builders.’

Oven Cleaners: Surfactants in this formula penetrate the burned-on grease, dirt, and food particles and wet the surface. A strong builder alkali such as sodium hydroxide is part of the mix to convert the oven grease to soap.

Tub Tile and Sink: The formulas are usually liquids and a specialty product to remove the ‘normal’ dirt on the surface, plus deep clean hard water deposits, soap scum, and rust stains. They are marketed as dilutable liquids, trigger sprays, and aerosols. Some sprays are foam to prevent a fast runoff when the surface is vertical.  The product is composed of surfactants, the carrier element of solvents to dissolve calcium hard water deposits and soap scum, antimicrobial cleaning agents, an oxidant for removal of mildew stains, and builder elements of alkaline ingredients such as sodium carbonate, sodium silicate, and sodium hydroxide.
